I watched Blow Up by Antonioni last night for the first time. Its one of the most beautifully shot films that I have ever seen. I want a time machine to head to ’60s London, it doesn’t look anything like the city that I have been to. Also, Vanessa Redgrave is so elegant and foxy.

Antonioni is incredible, I can’t believe i’ve waited this long to watch his movies. Netflixing L’Aventura NOW!

+ i visited 8 countries that i hadn’t yet visited

+ i wrote about 145 pages of a novel

+ i made a lot of new friends and like la a lot more than i did six months ago

+ i quit smoking and started again

i’m leaving at 1:30 today to fly down to san diego w/ Tom in his little red airplane. our friend’s new movie is playing in a little film festival and they are having a party.

if you’d like to see it, it’s called a four letter word, and its playing at the sunset five starting tonight. i saw it a few months ago and i vaguely remember it being cute and having some hot guys. more importantly, however, it features a great shot of my ass in biker shorts as i walk past david barton gym in chelsea.

and if we get back in time, i’m def coming to the farmer’s market meet-up! awesome!

i’m really sensative when it comes to movies. i don’t like horror movies at all, because i don’t like seeing people get killed.

likewise, when i watch immensely tragic movies, like the pianist or hotel rawanda, i can’t help but being devastated. when i saw hotel rawanda, my friend had to help me out of the back door of the theater because i was bawling so hard i could barely walk. when i watch a movie like this, i see all of the people being shot and all of the bodies as real people, because it really happened.

i’m ok with this, i wouldn’t want to be any different. i should feel devestated.

tonight i watched a movie called “a love to hide.” it was vaguely about gay victims of ww2, which hit hard, i did a term paper on the subject once, and it brought back all of the gruesome, unhuman stories which i had read.

the worst part though is the realization that there are people in this world that are still alive, still suffering just as badly, and i do very little to nothing to try to help.

tomorrow, i’ll wake up, maybe remember this and feel sad and write a letter for amnesty international to make myself feel like i’m doing something, but, pretty quickly after that, forget.

i don’t want to forget.

la.petit.figue’s post reminded me how I have been seeing Stuff White People Like all over since I saw the site. Like last weekend when I was at The Grove and I saw White People having a picnic with food purchased from Whole Foods and their black lesbian friends while enjoying a free concert by the Counting Crows that was sponsored by Apple.

One day, when I was about 8, my mom took my brother Nick and me to the Baskin Robbins that used to be on Chestnut Street (in SF). We ordered our usual clown cones (obviously) and sat down at a table next to a father and his two daughters. I was really into balancing my chair on its back two legs at the time, and my brother was into doing whatever I was doing, and one of the little girls next to us was, i guess, a total copycat, although, not a very agile copycat. She fell, her clown cone went flying and its head smashed all over the floor. I looked at Nick, he looked at my mom; we all had our mouths clenched shut and our faces tightened giving everything we had not to burst out laughing. Nick lasted about 3 seconds, me a couple of seconds more, and my mom about ten seconds later as she yanked us through the exit trying to dodge glares from the little girls father.

I just talked to my mom over lunch for an hour and that one came up. Happy Birthday Mom! Go get yourself a clown cone!
